Craig Ogden The Lighthouse Poole Nov.5th

The LIGHTHOUSE, POOLE, DORSET November 5th 2009

Craig Ogden, John Mills and Xuefei Yang will be playing at The Lighthouse, Poole on November 5th 2009. Included within Craig's programme will be music by Paul Coles and other british composers

A RARE chance to see three of the classical
world’s finest guitarists on the same stage as
Poole’s Lighthouse hosts its first Classical Guitar
Festival on Thursday.
“This is a terrific opportunity to see three very
different guitarists tackle a range of music from
differing eras,” says Dorset composer Paul
Coles, whose work will be included in the
programme.
Former pupil of the renowned guitarist and
composer John Williams, John Mills will be
playing the music of Haydn with the Pavao
String Quartet and duos with Cobie Smit.
The highly rated Xuefei Yang – the first Chinese
guitarist to sign an international recording
contract with EMI – plays the classical Spanish
music of Albeniz; while the ever-popular Craig
Ogden, who has been compared to Julian
Bream, plays a varied selection of works by
living UK composers including Paul Coles.
“Craig recorded an album of my material a
couple of years ago and he’s agreed to play
some pieces at Poole that he hasn’t performed
in concert before – so that gives us a premiere
of sorts,” says Paul.
Next July, Paul’s La Siesta, a concertina for
guitar, flute and orchestra, will be premiered by
Craig Ogden and flautist Judith Hall; and he has
contributed some flute and guitar duets for
Dorset’s Artsreach programme next February.
